Role overview

Startmate’s Community Growth Associate will be tasked with finding ambitious people who want to change the world and introducing them to startups. What this means in practice is growing, diversifying, engaging and activating the broader Australian and New Zealand startup community.

Startmate’s Community Growth Associate will be passionate about people, startups, technology, experimentation and unlocking ambitious people to do the best work of their lives. Within this role, there will be ample opportunity for the Community Growth Associate to lean into their unique skills, upskill elsewhere, and carve out a career path for themselves at Startmate.

  • Salary range: $60-75k + super + equity + carry in the funds
  • Reporting into Senior Media Associate Bronte McHenry‍
  • This role is Sydney- or Melbourne-based

 

Here are some examples of work you’ll commandeer

  • Creating and executing a highly strategic, year-round community events calendar to inspire new audiences to explore startups. This could include anything from AMAs with high-profile entrepreneurs, live podcast recordings, speed networking and community bookclubs, through to sports tournaments in the metaverse, hackathons, university guest lectures and field trips. 
  • End-to-end planning and executing a hybrid Demo Day with 800+ attendees.
  • Establishing and cultivating relationships with partner organisations and community sponsors.
  • Contributing to a strategy for and relaunching Startmate’s ‘SM Underground’ Discord community. 
  • Speaking with customers and diving into the data in order to create comprehensive customer personas and messaging for each of Startmate’s programs. 


In this role, you’ll work closely with…

  • The Senior Media Associate, by experimenting with strategies to increase Startmate Media’s readership, listenership and viewership.
  • Startmate’s customers, as you’ll be at the frontline of  Startmate’s ambitious 2022 media strategy. 
  • The Head of Programs, by building customer interviews into the community events strategy in order to inform the launch of new Fellowships and products. 
  • The program leaders, by developing strategies to reach new audiences.
  • The ops team, by experimenting with productising Startmate’s community events strategy.

Your background is less important than the key skills, which might include:

  • Highly organised;
  • Creative visionary with an ability to zoom in and manage the detail;
  • Fast-mover, action-oriented;
  • Proactive, strategic thinker; and 
  • Sociable people-person.
