In our Spotlight series, we’re introducing you to our first ever cohort of Ladymates Leaders.

We reckon they are just about the most incredible bunch ever to come through a Startmate program: they are smart, pioneering, natural leaders who have already achieved enormous amounts and will go on to change the face of this ecosystem.

So - meet Zoe!

Tell us a little bit about your career so far

Started my working life as a corporate litigation lawyer, following the traditional law school > law firm path. I was curious to move into the world of startups but wasn't sure how to get started so after completing the Startmate Women's Fellowship back in 2021 and deciding I was ready to make the jump, I happily traded pencil skirts for jeans & sneakers and now lead the Business Operations team at digital health startup, Perx Health.

What's your role now?

I'm the Director of Operations & General Counsel at Perx Health. My team works on strategic projects across the business as well as managing the day-to-day operations that keep the lights on. So, in classic startup fashion I wear many hats and love it that way!

Why did you apply to join LL?

For many reasons but definitely one of the most important things to me was finding a community of peers who are working through many of the same challenges as me. I wanted to be in a group that I could learn from and grow with, and just enjoy a safe space to be vulnerable about navigating the rollercoaster of startup leadership.

What's been the best part so far?

Coming away from every session with tangible, practical advice to tackle my biggest challenges from people who've actually been through it before or are currently navigating the same thing. Plus, it's been really special to meet such an awesome group of women.

What are you reading/watching/listening to at the moment?

I just finished reading 'Tiny Moons: A Year of Eating in Shanghai' by Nina Mingya Powles - a really beautiful collection of essays about food and memories. My mouth was watering the entire time.

What would be your alternative career?

Archaeologist - I've always been fascinated with ancient history and would love to spend my time uncovering lost artefacts and forgotten civilizations. My true dream career is to be Indiana Jones.
