This role doesn’t require a track record. It’s designed for someone hungry, not proven, and excited for the chance to apply their uni courses to real investment transactions. 

We don't need you to have a formal background in investment or law, but it'd be great if you're interested in or know a bit about venture capital investing.

💰 Salary: $34 per hour

✏️ Fixed term: 6 months at 2 days per week with scope to increase to 3 days. The role will commence mid-late April and conclude around 4 November. 

🌆 Location: Sydney or Melbourne (preference for Sydney)

🤝 Reporting to: Jason Fang, Head of Finance

  • Get shit done: you’re an execution machine and love tearing through a to-do list. You can juggle many different tasks at once without getting overwhelmed.

Role Scope: Your Responsibilities

N.B. you will receive training and support in the following areas.

  1. Investment Diligence
    1. Description:
      1. As deals materialise in the pipeline, you will prepare an internal investment checklist, seek approval from our Investment Committee (IC) on the deal and assist Startmate’s external lawyers to get the deal closed.
      2. Please note, you aren’t expected to have a legal background as our external lawyers will be running the legal process end-to-end, but an understanding of or interest in venture capital investing does help.
    2. Examples:
      1. Collate documentation from the investee company’s data room.
      2. Complete the Startmate investment checklist to a high standard.
      3. Run police, bankruptcy and anti-money laundering checks on the investee company and founders. 

  1. Fundraising Execution
    1. Description:
      1. You will complete the investor onboarding process for the Accelerator Fund. 
      2. You will be responsible for using Passthrough, Salesforce and AirTable to ensure our records are accurate. 
      3. Follow up with leads in the pipeline so that they can be onboarded as investors. 
    2. Examples:
      1. Ensure investors meet regulatory requirements in order to invest.
      2. Help investors set up their investor portal account. 

  1. Investor Reporting
    1. Description: 
      1. You will help deliver investor reporting to Startmate’s underlying investors. 
      2. You will help our team collate portfolio data so that our Finance Team can accurately value the portfolio companies in our Funds. 
    2. Examples:
      1. Assist with collating and distilling valuation data from Startmate’s 200+ portfolio companies.
      2. Draft and review investor communications to our 500+ investors. 
      3. Produce an annual investor update for each of Startmate’s 26 Funds.
