Beth and some of the Ladymate Leaders

In our Spotlight series, we’re introducing you to our first ever cohort of Ladymates Leaders.

We reckon they are just about the most incredible bunch ever to come through a Startmate program: they are smart, pioneering, natural leaders who have already achieved enormous amounts and will go on to change the face of this ecosystem.

Meet Beth!

‍

Tell us a little bit about your career so far.

‍

I started my career as an Event Producer, where I led the delivery of a suite of major events that had a focus on culture, community capacity building and economic development.

‍

Looking to expand this community focused work with a more direct social and climate impact, I then joined OzHarvest, where I had multiple roles starting as National Events Manager and most recently, National Operations Lead, where I worked on driving cross-sector collaboration for complex social and environmental challenges.

‍

Having always been interested in the intersection of “for-purpose” and “for-profit”, whilst at OzHarvest I started my MBA in Social Impact, which led me to Emmi, where I have been fortunate to gain great business experience whilst working in a climate focused business aiming to achieve systems wide impact through enabling the financial industry to participate in, and lead, the transition to net-zero.

‍

Why did you apply to join LL?

‍

I was looking to connect with, and learn from, other women working in start-ups who were at the same point in their career and were facing some of the same new challenges as I was. I wanted to build more of a network of women I could lean on, learn from and share my journey with.

‍

What's been the best part so far?

‍

The support that comes from building a network of your peers, who are all incredibly talented and intelligent, and who give excellent advice. Being able to learn from other women at similar points in their careers has been so helpful, and a lot of fun, as have the coaching and masterclass sessions. I think a big learning coming out of this is the confidence and knowledge to have those " difficult" conversations we all do our best to avoid, and actually turn them into a valuable experience.

‍

What are you reading/watching/listening to at the moment?

‍

Well, in the theme of the day, I've just found the podcast  " Too Much" by Future Women - a great series of interviews with some very accomplished Australian women looking back on how they navigated challenges throughout their own careers - lots of great gems of advice!

‍

Outside of work I love...

‍

Hosting friends for a long lunches, and the thrill of freezing cold  ocean swims right through winter!
